Same-day dryer vent service

Dryer Transition Hose Replacement in Pinellas County

The transition hose is the short connector between the back of the dryer and the vent in the wall. It's the part that gets crushed when the dryer is pushed back, and in many homes it's still white vinyl or thin foil.

We replace it with a listed semi-rigid metal connector, kept short and uncrushed, and check the airflow at the outside vent. Fixed price, quoted before we start.

When the dryer can't sit back without crushing the hose, we find a better connection.

What we see

Foil, vinyl or metal: what's behind your dryer

White vinyl hose is flammable and isn't allowed for dryer connections. If you have it, replace it.

Thin foil accordion hose crushes and tears easily, its ridges catch lint, and most of it isn't listed for this use.

Semi-rigid aluminum holds its shape and is sold listed to the safety standard for dryer transition ducts (UL 2158A). That's what we install.

The rules: one single listed length, no longer than 8 feet, never hidden inside a wall, floor or ceiling.

Warning signs

Signs your transition hose is the problem

1

The hose is flattened or kinked behind the dryer.

2

It's white vinyl or thin foil.

3

Lint on the floor or wall behind the dryer.

4

The hose came off the dryer or the wall.

5

It runs into the wall or ceiling instead of stopping at the wall connection.

6

Drying got slower after the dryer was moved or replaced.

Check it today: pull the dryer out a few inches and look. If the hose is crushed, torn or vinyl, stop using the dryer until it's replaced.
Our process

How we replace a transition hose

  1. We measure the airflow at the outside vent.
  2. We remove the old hose and clean the lint from the dryer outlet and the wall connection.
  3. We clean the line if it's restricted.
  4. We fit a listed semi-rigid metal connector, as short and straight as the space allows, with proper clamps.
  5. We set the dryer back without crushing the hose.
  6. We measure the airflow again.
Local know-how

Tight laundry closets in Pinellas homes

Many condos and townhomes, from Feather Sound to Palm Harbor, have laundry closets so shallow that the dryer crushes the hose when it's pushed back. A recessed wall box or a low-profile listed connector solves it.

Older block homes in Largo and St. Petersburg often still have the vinyl hose that came with an older dryer.

After a storm rebuild, check the hose first. Rushed installs often reuse foil. See dryer vents after a hurricane.

FAQ

Transition hose questions

Is foil dryer hose OK?

Thin foil hose crushes and catches lint, and most of it isn't listed for dryer use. Semi-rigid metal listed to UL 2158A is the safer choice.

Can I use a white vinyl dryer hose?

No. Vinyl is flammable and isn't allowed for dryer connections.

How long can a dryer transition hose be?

No longer than 8 feet, in one single listed length, and it can't be hidden inside a wall, floor or ceiling.

Why does my hose keep getting crushed?

The closet is too shallow for the dryer and the hose. A recessed wall box or a low-profile listed connector gives it room.

Do you install the hose when I buy a new dryer?

Yes. We connect it, clean the line it attaches to, and check the airflow.
