From our jobs

Condo vents that run through the whole building

Most Feather Sound condos and townhomes have the laundry in a closet in the middle of the unit, so the dryer vent can't go straight outside. It runs through interior walls or ceilings to an exterior wall, a balcony wall or the roof, often with several bends on the way. Every bend is a place for lint to settle.

The result is the most common call we get here: a dryer that worked fine for years now takes two cycles, and the outside flap barely moves. The clog is usually at the far end of the run, where the air has slowed down, so cleaning only the hose behind the dryer doesn't help.

We clean from the dryer end and, where the building gives access, from the outside or the roof as well, then measure the airflow at the exit so you know the full line is clear. If your association needs notice or a certificate of insurance, tell us when you book.

Warning signs

Signs your Feather Sound or High Point dryer vent is clogged

1

Towels need a second cycle, or come out hot and still damp.

2

The laundry closet gets hot and humid while the dryer runs.

3

A burning smell or a dryer cabinet that's hot to the touch. Turn it off and call (727) 454-0061.

4

The outside flap barely opens, or you see lint around the vent on the wall or roof.

5

The dryer shuts off mid-cycle because its high-limit switch tripped.

6

No cleaning in the past year. Failure to clean is the leading cause of home dryer fires, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

Quick check: run the dryer on high and look at the outside vent. The flap should open fully and you should feel a strong, warm flow. A weak puff means a restricted line.

Local know-how

Two neighborhoods, two kinds of vents

Feather Sound is a planned community of condos, townhomes and single-family homes near Old Tampa Bay. Stacked units mean long vent runs and exits high on the building, and the bay air keeps lint damp so it sticks to the duct walls.

High Point is mostly single-story homes, villas and manufactured homes. Here the vent is usually short, but it often runs through a garage wall or under the home, where hoses get crushed or pulled loose.

For either one, once a year is the minimum. Large families, pets and upstairs laundry closets usually need cleaning every six to nine months.

Our process

How a Feather Sound visit works

  1. A text before we arrive with your technician's name.
  2. We find where the vent exits and measure the airflow there first.
  3. Floors protected, dryer pulled out carefully.
  4. Problems shown before fixing, with a fixed price you approve.
  5. The whole line cleaned, from both ends when it's long or exits on the roof.
  6. Cap cleared and the damper tested.
  7. A second airflow reading and before-and-after photos, so you can see the difference.
