Dryer Vent Bird Nest Removal in Pinellas County
A dryer vent with a broken or stuck-open flap is a warm, dry tunnel, and birds treat it like one. A nest can fill the duct in a few days and block the airflow completely. Lizards, rodents and wasps find their way in the same way.
We remove the nest from both ends, clean the full line, and fit a cap that keeps animals out without trapping lint. Teams in Clearwater, Largo and Seminole.

Why birds pick dryer vents
A flap that doesn't close. Lint buildup, rust or a broken hinge leaves the damper hanging open. That's the entrance.
Warmth and shelter. The duct stays warm and dry, and it's out of reach of predators. In spring and early summer, nesting birds move in fast.
Nests are fuel. Twigs, grass and feathers sit right in the hot air path. Combined with lint, a nest is both a blockage and a fire risk.
It's not only birds. We also find lizards, mice and rats, and wasp nests at the cap, especially on vents close to the ground.
Signs something is living in your vent
Chirping, scratching or fluttering in the wall near the laundry.
Twigs, grass or feathers sticking out of the outside vent.
Birds flying in and out of the cap, on the wall or the roof.
The dryer suddenly takes much longer, or shuts off mid-cycle.
A bad smell when the dryer runs.
Insects or droppings around the laundry room vent.
How we remove a nest
- We check whether the nest is active. Most native birds are protected by federal law; if an active nest of a native species has eggs or chicks, we tell you and come back once it's empty. House sparrows and European starlings, two common vent nesters, aren't covered.
- We open the cap and pull the nest out by hand and with tools, so pieces don't fall deeper into the duct.
- We clean the full line from the dryer end and the outside, with rotary brushes and a strong vacuum.
- We check the duct for damage from pecking or chewing.
- We fit a pest-resistant dryer cap with a working damper. No screens, since screens trap lint.
- We measure the airflow and send before-and-after photos.
Nests and pests around Pinellas
Low wall vents near landscaping in Seminole, Largo and Pinellas Park attract lizards and rodents as well as birds.
Roof caps on two-story homes in Palm Harbor and Oldsmar are popular nesting spots because they're high and quiet. See roof dryer vent cleaning.
Near the beaches, salt air rusts flaps open, which is often how the first nest gets in. See dryer vent cap replacement.

Mya T., Google review, September 2026Bird nest and pest questions
Can I pull the nest out myself?
You can reach the first few inches from outside, but pieces usually fall deeper into the duct and keep blocking it. The line has to be cleaned from both ends.
Is it safe to run the dryer with a nest in the vent?
No. The nest can block the airflow completely, and dry nesting material near the heat is a fire risk.
Will a screen keep birds out?
It will, but it's not allowed on a dryer exhaust because it traps lint. Use a dryer cap with a guard or a damper made for dryer vents.
When do birds nest in dryer vents?
Mostly in spring and early summer, but we remove nests year-round in Florida.
Are the birds protected?
Most native birds are protected by federal law, so an active nest of a native species with eggs or chicks is left until it's empty. House sparrows and European starlings aren't covered.
